An Emporia man who is a defendant in a federal drug distribution case will be sentenced next month in a Lyon County drug possession case.
Troy Wagaman accepted a plea agreement to one count of possession of cocaine as part of a hearing Wednesday. He will be sentenced Oct. 22.
Wagaman had been charged with possessing cocaine and paraphernalia, as well as speeding and other traffic counts, after an alleged incident in late April.
Wagaman and four other men — Emporian Jesus Cruz-Rodriguez, Texas resident Moises Cervantes-Sanchez and Mexican residents Omar Villa-Carranza and Tiburcio Ayala Rangel — are still facing federal charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, as well as possession with intent to distribute, as part of an alleged drug distribution ring that involved trips from Mexico to Emporia and back between January and May. The alleged operation worked out of a home in the 800 block of West Fifth and a shipping container in the 1200 block of Road D southwest of Emporia. The next hearing in that case is tentatively set for Sept. 16.
