IdeaTek continues its heavy presence in Emporia as it works to build out its fiber network by late spring 2026.
Spokesman John Terry tells KVOE News the company has split Emporia into 13 different zones and has finished its work in two, with additional work underway in two other zones. Crews are installing fiber cables as part of underground, trenchless, “directional boring” methods.
Terry says there has been good communication with city officials, notably City Engineer Jim Ubert and Communications Manager Christine Torrens, as the project got started in late July and early August. Ubert says the work has been on a wider scope than city officials initially thought.
Based in Buhler, IdeaTek is into a $14 million project to bring its Internet services to Emporia. Terry says work may be finished by this upcoming April.
IdeaTek’s work is among several city infrastructure projects highlighted online at emporiaks.gov/livemap.
