Topics of Polycart freshness, care and changeout were part of KVOE’s Morning Show interview schedule Thursday.
The topic came up on the Morning Show late last month, and Solid Waste Supervisor Keith Senn says there are simple ways to keep your trash can relatively fresh — or at least fresh-smelling.
Polycarts can be under warranty for 10-12 years, depending on the manufacturer, and there are some that are still in use since they were first introduced to Emporia in 1997.
Residents may have noticed a gradual, scattered change in the Polycart color scheme. For years, the trash cans have been gray with a darker gray top. That gray color scheme remains in place, but the lettering goes from white to gold as part of City Commission discussions last year — and as part of a way to represent Emporia State University’s community presence as other Kansas towns have done, including Pittsburg. Senn says the black-and-gold Polycarts are available for trade-out, but only under certain circumstances for now.
Residents with questions about their Polycarts, or who want to change out their trash cans, can call 620-340-6339.
Separately, the city has announced the creation and development of its CivicGov online portal — designed specifically so residents can apply online for building permits. Residents can also submit nuisance reports for things like overgrown yards, mowing issues, trash, debris, abandoned vehicles, unsafe or deteriorating structures and other code enforcement issues.
The portal is available online at emporiaks.gov/emporiacivicgovportal.
