The Emporia State football team fell down 20-0 in less than five minutes and could never shovel out of the deficit in a 41-20 defeat to #10 Angelo State at LeGrand Stadium Saturday. ESU gave up an 80-yard touchdown pass on a third-and-short on ASU’s first drive. Ben Harris tossed the first of his four interceptions on the ensuing drive and the Rams returned it for a touchdown but the Hornets blocked the extra point. Harris then tossed another pick that gave the Rams a short field as they scored again to make it 20-0. ASU went in front 27-0 and the Hornets never got closer than two scores after that. Head coach Garin Higgins acknowledged that ESU made several mistakes in the form of the turnovers and penalties in the game, but that the Rams deserved credit for the win.
Final stats for the game were not immediately available. ESU (1-1) is on a bye next week and returns to action September 20 on the road to take on Nebraska-Kearney. Coverage begins at 11:00 a.m. on Mix 104.9.
