The Emporia State women’s soccer team fell to Maryville 2-1 in a neutral-site matchup in Springfield, Mo. on Saturday. The Saints took the lead 15 minutes into the match and held onto the 1-0 edge at the break. The Lady Hornets found an equalizer early in the second half when Megyn Mahloch found the back of the net on an assist from Aubrey Seltman, but Maryville scored with less than 19 minutes to go to retake the lead. Avery Zimmerman fired a shot with just over 12 minutes to play but Maryville made the save and ESU didn’t shoot again the rest of the match. The Saints outshot E-State 10-6 and 5-3 in shots on goal with each team generating two corner kicks. ESU (0-2) hosts opening day at the ESU Pitch Friday when UMary visits for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
