Traffic adjustments have been commonplace near Flying J since mid-April after an oversized load damaged the Kansas Turnpike bridge over US Highway 50. The latest adjustments are now in place.
The Turnpike Authority says eastbound lanes are closed, meaning all US-50 traffic will shift to the westbound lanes for head-to-head traffic. This new traffic pattern should remain in place all month. There are currently no updates to traffic flow on the Turnpike bridge.
Adjustments were needed after the over-height load cut through several supporting I-beams under the bridge, forcing significant repairs that have been underway since the wreck. Several contractors are involved in the over $2 million repair project. Previous estimates have had the work finished “in late 2025.”

The ongoing work over US Highway 50 comes as the Turnpike Authority continues seeking customer feedback through an online survey. The KTA is using the survey to determine priorities for upcoming projects and “internal improvements.” The survey is available through Sept. 30. Click here for the link.
