A preliminary hearing is coming next month in a Lyon County case involving charges of attempted arson, kidnapping and others.
David James Anderson, age 40 of Emporia, had his first official court appearance Monday and will return to Lyon County District Court on Oct. 1.
Monday’s hearing saw Senior Judge Merlin Wheeler appoint Paul Dean as Anderson’s defense attorney. Bond was also set at $75,000, with Anderson directed not to be at 822 Merchant and not to be within 1,000 feet of the alleged victim in the case. Anderson also needs GPS monitoring and must surrender his passport.
Anderson was charged after an alleged incident on or around Sept. 4. He’s accused of setting a fire at an apartment complex in the 800 block of Merchant and holding a woman against her will. He is officially charged with attempted aggravated arson, kidnapping, battery and criminal threat, as well as possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
