A hearing is coming next month for an Emporia man accused of aggravated battery on law enforcement.
Jesus Abundiz-Correa was tentatively set for a preliminary hearing Tuesday, but that was pushed to Oct. 2 after prior defense attorney Brian Williams withdrew from the case due to a conflict. Rand Simmons has been appointed as the defense attorney.
Abundiz-Correa faces nine total counts, including one for aggravated battery on law enforcement after an alleged incident Aug. 20. Abundiz-Correa also faces three counts of battery against law enforcement, one count of interference and single counts of possessing marijuana, methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
Separately, an Emporia man faces formal charges of aggravated sexual battery and breach of privacy.
Christopher David Harris had his first court appearance earlier this month and has a preliminary hearing Sept. 29.
Harris faces one count of aggravated sexual battery and 13 for breach of privacy after allegedly abusing the same victim this past April and May, in one regard by touching the alleged victim and in another regard by concealing a camcorder or camera and taking images without consent.
Emporia Police have not given details on either case.
