Lyon and most surrounding counties stand to benefit — at least somewhat — from federal emergency funding announced this week after severe weather back in June.
The Trump administration has announced nearly $6 million in emergency relief funds overall for Kansas after storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding between June 3-7. Sixteen counties are included in the announcement, including Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris and Osage.
Earlier, Lyon County Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell had said the county had surpassed its damage threshold for the event, which had numerous gravel roads damaged due to flooding from 6-plus inches of rain, which aggravated the area situation after two rounds of heavy rainfall in late May.
