It appears a significant road construction project on Emporia’s north side is just about done.
Bridge work is nearly completed for the Kansas Department of Transportation’s bridge replacement affecting Interstate 35 over Lincoln Street. Engineer Steve Baalman says work could be done by the middle of next week, if not sooner.
The project essentially has been replacing two bridges, one for northbound travel and one for southbound drivers, since early last year. Drivers have had to use head-to-head traffic for most of the project. Work has also taken place underneath and near the bridge as a hike-and-bike path is now connecting Becker Addition residents north of the Interstate to Jones Park south of the work zone.
