There is still work ahead, but the structural work is now done on the Kansas Turnpike bridge over US Highway 50.
Turnpike Authority engineer Shannon Moore had an update on KVOE’s Morning Show on Friday after the bridge suffered significant damage due to an over-height load in mid-April.
Moore says painting and other late-stage items are ahead through the end of this month.
Moore has said the damage was among the worst he’s been associated with during his career as an engineer. He says the damage from the over-height load had immediate damage points that rippled elsewhere.
There had been initial concerns about possibly shutting down the Turnpike bridge, but that was ultimately not needed although northbound traffic was constricted to one lane for much of the project. Moore says work is ahead of schedule, thanks to the design work and contract staff on site.
