Madison continued their strong start to the season with another blowout victory against Hartford 49-0.
Madison’s Lane Smith started the scoring early, taking a Hartford punt 51 yards for a touchdown with 10:23 left in the first quarter. Madison would add another touchdown in the first quarter behind an eight yard rush by Cruz Leiser.
Leiser would continue the scoring early in the second quarter, this time with a 52 yard rush.
With Madison holding a 20-0, both teams would each commit two turnovers throughout the rest of the quarter.
With their offense coming off of back to back turnovers, Madison responded with a touchdown score from Brayden Grimmett, pushing the lead to 28-0 into halftime.
Madison’s assistant coach Dallas Thompson was pleased with how his team responded heading into halftime.
Madison carried over the momentum to end the first half into the third quarter, as Grimmett would find Cory Yowell for a passing touchdown 90 seconds into the second half.
Leiser would add another rushing touchdown before Grimmett would have another passing touchdown, this time to Lane Smith to push the score to 49-0 to end the game with 2:53 remaining in the third quarter.
Grimmett would lead all rushers with 129 yards on seven carries and added another 59 yards through the air.
Madison improves to 2-0 and will have another Lyon County League matchup with 3-time defending champion Burlingame(2-0).
Hartford will look for their first win of the season next week against Northern Heights.
