The Chase County Republican Committee has a special convention Monday evening.
Members will meet at the Chase County Courthouse to nominate a replacement for Treasurer Dow Wilson’s unexpired term. Wilson was elected in 2017 and served until earlier this month. Bernice Albers defeated Wilson in the Republican primary, and there is now an investigation underway into between $50,000 and $100,000 in unspecified financial irregularities dating back to at least 2022.
Monday’s convention at 5:30 pm is open to the public until voting, which takes place behind closed doors. Candidates must be nominated by committee members and Albers is eligible to be nominated. All nominations go to Kansas Governor Laura Kelly for approval.
