Court proceedings may resume next month for a federal case involving charges of meth distribution between Emporia and Mexico.
At a hearing Friday, Judge Holly Teeter approved a 30-day continuance so attorneys for the remaining five defendants — Troy Wagaman and Jesus Cruz-Rodriguez, both of Emporia; Moises Cervantes-Sanches of Texas; and Omar Villa-Carranza and Tiburcio Ayala-Rangel, both of Mexico — can review discovery documents from prosecutors. A status hearing is now on the docket for Oct. 21.
All five are charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, as well as possession with intent to distribute, as part of an alleged drug distribution ring that involved trips from Mexico to Emporia and back between January and May.
