For 100 years, Klumpe Blacksmithing has been a prominent fixture in the Olpe community and Saturday saw the community come out in droves to celebrate the business’s centennial celebration.
Activities kicked off in the early morning hours through the evening and included fun runs, a 30 and 15-mile bike race, games, demonstrations, facility tours, a street dance and much more. Owner Phillip Klumpe says it only felt right to celebrate the anniversary with a community event, as it is the community that has played a large role in their longevity.
The community event also served a second purpose, as it was raising funds for the Klumpe Blacksmithing Scholarship, which was created to support “Unique skills and enhance students’ imaginations and work ethics,” and according to Klumpe, is not limited just to students in Olpe.
Klumpe Blacksmithing began back in 1925 and was founded by Klumpe’s grandfather and has been passed down from generation to generation since. Klumpe tells KVOE News that the tradition of being a family-owned business will continue well into the future.
