The first weekend is in the books for the Lyon County Showdown Rodeo.
Among the participants was Stone Newell of Oskaloosa. He’s been a rodeo participant since shortly after he turned 5 years old.
Newell says he enjoys rodeo for one simple reason.
Junior high and high school students from Kansas and other nearby states have been in Emporia this past weekend, and they will return this upcoming Saturday and Sunday. The upcoming weekend typically would have rodeo activities in Manhattan, but renovations continue on facilities there so the event was moved to Emporia.
