Emporia’s Commercial Street is now closed for repairs. At least part of it.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe has closed the crossing for unspecified repairs. The project could be done late Tuesday.
Separately, work on Emporia’s Southeast Transmission waterline replacement project has been moving south from Seventh and Garfield for several weeks. Construction is now turning to the east.
City Communications Manager Christine Torrens says construction is now moving along Seventh to Neosho. Once getting to Neosho, crews will again turn south and work towards the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks. There is no word on how long this phase will be in effect, but residents are told to expect partial street closures.
Southeast follows Peyton Street and the 24th and Prairie projects to improve service and reliability across town. The latest construction project could last another year or so.
