Southwick House continues raising funds for a new transitional housing facility in south Emporia.
Director Susan Brinkman says the fundraising effort has had several recent successes, notably with a $50,000 grant from the Trusler Foundation — as well as a $15,000 gift from the KT Wiedemann Foundation and an anonymous $10,000 gift. Brinkman says the gifts push the overall $3.6 million fundraising effort to 60 percent of goal, or around $2.16 million collected or pledged.
Southwick is also planning for the annual Turkey Day Dash 5K fundraiser on Thanksgiving. Residents interested in contributing can participate in the Turkey Day Dash or reach out to the Emporia Community Foundation.
Southwick House is expanding on the original mission of Plumb Place to serve women and families in crisis situations. Plumb Place ended operations in 2020 after a century of serving women. The facility will be built at 115 East Logan.
