Rain or shine, this is a banner weekend for the Gufler Mansion.
New owners Ben and Deborah Kohl had a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday and an open house Saturday. At the ribbon-cutting, Ben Kohl reiterated his saying the facility is “Emporia’s mansion.”
Deborah Kohl is looking forward to serving the community.
Executive Chef Julia Zinke, a gold medalist in the SkillsUSA Nationals during her time in the Flint Hills Technical College Culinary Arts program, says this is a dream come true for her.
The Kohls are both Emporia State alums and met while in college. They bought the Gufler from prior owners Brad and Susan Cochennet, who had owned the mansion since 2016.
The Gufler has 12 beds, 12 rooms, 8.5 baths, three kitchens, two dining rooms, two sun rooms and a parlor among its amenities. The mansion was designed by Henry Brinkman and built by Henry Kempher for the Albert Henry Gufler family back in 1917.
