It appears it will be Tuesday at the earliest before more information is available about Saturday’s fire at 1106 Constitution.
Fire damaged part of the second story, both as part of an initial fire and as part of a flareup. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley says the flareup started in a part of a house that wasn’t readily evident after crews did an initial sweep to make sure everybody was out of the house. The home, owned by Walid and Javid Safdar, was built in 1930 — and Conley says it appears there were several additions to the initial structure.
Anybody inside the house at the time of the fire was out, so there were no injuries reported.
Investigators conducted initial work Saturday afternoon and returned to the scene for more intensive work Monday.
There is currently no word on a cause or origination point. There is also no word yet on whether the fire extended to the main floor or basement.
