Emporia State track & field has hired Tim Byers to join the staff of head coach Seth Mischke. Byers will coach sprinters and jumpers for the Hornets. Byers was previously Meet Director at the University of Kansas overseeing KU home events in track & field and cross country for the Jayhawks including the Kansas Relays. KU recently announced that the third-longest continuously running track event in the country would be put on an indefinite pause in a cost-cutting move. Byers previously was the director of cross country and track & field at Baker University from 2014-2022. Under his direction, the Wildcats won nine Heart of America conference titles while Byers was the HAC Coach of the Year six times. He led the Baker men and women to the NAIA National Championships in his final season, a first in program history. He’s also served as a head coach at Ottawa University and Simpson College and was an assistant at North Dakota State.
