Newman Regional Health is getting ready for a partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC is into its nationwide NHANES survey The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey helps the CDC gain data on health and nutrition trends, including health conditions, diet and physical fitness. NRH Chief Executive Officer Cathy Pimple says this will mean a significant CDC presence in Emporia, including several large trucks, within the next two weeks.
The goal of the NHANES effort is to update public health policies and programs. Survey results also support medical research.

Separately, the hospital’s Board of Trustees discussed the recently-announced staff additions of Dr Ernesto Diaz, as well as nurses Paige Kitsman and Paige Meats.
Board members also reviewed the monthly and year-to-date financial data. August net income was around $71,000, favorable to budget by nearly $400,000 but unfavorable to last year by over $170,000. There is a year-to-date net loss of almost $24,000, unfavorable to budget by over $480,000 and to last year by almost $300,000. Pimple says inpatient revenue was 5 percent over budget, due to longer-than-expected stays for rehab care, but outpatient and other patient revenue were both under budget, in part due to decreased operating room revenue and lower volumes in orthopedics, surgery and primary care.
