Several motions have been filed this month as part of early court processes in an Emporia murder case.
Prosecutors in the case against Alexei Perez-Ricardo have filed separate motions that could add almost 30 witnesses to upcoming court proceedings. Perez-Ricardo, meanwhile, has filed a so-called Brady motion to receive all discovery evidence from prosecutors, saying nothing has come over from the Lyon County Attorney’s Office in that regard since he was jailed in late May.
Perez-Ricardo, age 36 of Emporia, is accused of killing 57-year-old Adolfo Viniegra, initially listed as 62-year-old Raul Reyes, in late May following an alleged disturbance. He is officially charged with second-degree murder and aggravated battery in Viniegra’s murder. Perez-Ricardo is also charged with aggravated robbery after an alleged incident involving Joseph Alfred Rodriguez. Further details about the charges and the connections between the listed individuals are pending.
A preliminary hearing is tentatively set for Oct. 10.
