A new and improved program aimed at literacy for younger residents will be coming soon through the Emporia Public Library, thanks to a very generous, recently delivered gift.
Monday night, representatives of the Emporia Public Library were joined by members of Emporia’s Masonic Lodge No. 12 for the presentation of a $5,000 community grant award to support the library’s Kits for Kids. Library Director Pauline Stacchini.
Stacchini says the library is “So grateful for the Kansas Masonic Foundation’s support,” adding it will allow them to enhance the program, saying that they are planning to completely “revamp it” by next year.
Emporia Lodge Master James Miler says they are proud to support this cause, noting the Masons have always been focused on supporting youth-centric activities; however, this particular cause is a relatively new focus for them.
Emporia Lodge No. 12 has been a part of the community since 1864, having provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to charitable causes in that time, including more than $181,000 in scholarships for area students since 2015.
