Discussions about the Emporia Carnegie Library’s future will return to the City Commission on Wednesday.
The study session discussion will update the current status of the former Emporia Public Library and home of the Lyon County Historical Society, which has been vacant since the Historical Society moved its remaining storage items to the History Center in 2020, following the move of the Historical Society operations to the History Center in 2016. The discussion will also revisit several options for the building, including mothballing, repair and remodel, selling the building for a new use or demolishing the building and replacing it with an amphitheater.
Another study session topic involves a review of mowing orders and related procedures.
During the action session, commissioners could pass an ordinance making adjustments to the Joint City-County Traffic Safety Committee, possibly expanding the current membership to include single appointees by both the city and county commissions; updates to review procedures, meeting frequency and quorum requirements; and revising outdated language. Commissioners could also approve the 2021 International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Existing Building Code and Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code.
An executive session on economic development is also planned.
The action meeting leads off the overall slate at 11 am at the Municipal Court Room. The study meeting follows at White Auditorium City Conference Room 1AB.
