There is a new opportunity for Emporians to learn more about local candidates with the general election barely a month away.
Kansas Spanish Speakers has announced a City Commission Candidate Forum for Oct. 8. Candidates will have opening statements before having timed answers to questions as moderated by Kansas Spanish Speakers. Executive Director LeLan Dains says the goal of this forum is to increase voter turnout and civic engagement.
The Kansas Spanish Speakers forum will be from 6-8 pm Oct. 8 at the Lee Beran Recreation Center. Everybody is invited to attend.
This follows the longstanding Candidate Forum on Oct. 6 at Flint Hills Technical College as organized by the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and League of Women Voters Emporia Chapter. It also comes near the start of KVOE News’ one-on-one Candidate Spotlight interviews with City Commission candidates, airing Oct. 7, Oct. 9, Oct. 14 and Oct. 16.
