Regardless of the situation, Kansas Congressman Derek Schmidt says violence is not the answer to political differences — or other issues.
Schmidt made his comments as part of his monthly visit on KVOE’s Morning Show last week. He says several of the incidents over the past 18 months appear to come from people who are “heavily disgruntled with the direction of the country.”
Schmidt’s comments followed the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University several weeks ago, as well as two attempts on President Donald Trump’s life during the 2024 election cycle, the murder of a Minnesota state lawmaker and her husband earlier this year and a fatal shooting at the ICE facility in Dallas last week. They also preceded several mass shooting incidents nationwide since his interview this past Friday, as well as the shooting death of a Hays police officer this past weekend.
