Powerful music emanated from Emporia State’s Welch Stadium on Wednesday.
Emporia State University had its annual Marching Festival, featuring almost 20 high school bands from across Kansas, including Emporia, Burlington, Osage City and Waverly, which performed a non-adjudicated show. All three bands got excellent or 2 ratings, and Emporia High took top honors in the mid-level Black Division. Buhler took sweepstakes honors for highest overall score, as well as caption awards for best color guard and percussion. Gardner-Edgerton got the caption award for best drum majors.
