Lyon County Commissioners had one slight adjustment to their regular action meeting held Thursday morning.
Originally, commissioners were set to consider a pair of items from Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope related to the construction of the new training and 911 facility, which has been in development since the early part of the year. The items in question were a construction engineering agreement with Driggs Design Group for oversight and testing services during Phase 1 of the Range construction, quality of material testing, and building pads for a total of $9,300.00 and a better than $1.5 million bid from KBS Constructors for constructing the shooting range and handling dirt preparation work for the project.
Those items were tabled for a week before the meeting, after Cope stated that he had some questions and details he wanted to “tidy up” before presenting them to the commission.
KVOE News also spoke with Commissioner Chris Bartel, who declined a recorded interview, but did say he felt the KBS information he received was lacking significant detail and while he has no issue with the project itself, he feels more information needs to come with the presentation before he can feel comfortable signing off on anything related to it. With that in mind, Bartel was perfectly fine approving tabling the items for a week, as were Commission Chair Ken Duft and Commissioner Doug Peck, with the commission voting 3-0 in favor of the action.
Cope says he does not expect this will set the project back, noting they have several days built into their timeline to account for both minor and major delays. A full timeline is currently pending.
In other business Thursday, commissioners approved a quote from the Railroad Yard for a steel plate and a 10’x48.7’ tank car for $32,057, which will be cut down to make 3-4 culverts. Commissioners also followed the suit of their counterparts at the city by approving amendments to the City/County joint traffic safety committee after city commissioners did the same Wednesday.
Lyon County Commissioners will reconvene for their weekly meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
