The Emporia State volleyball team survived a five-set thriller to extend their winning streak to 13 in a 22-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 15-11 victory over Pittsburg State at John Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kan. Friday night. ESU jumped on top in the first set early but PSU roared back to lead by as many as six in the frame. ESU trimmed the deficit to three but the Gorillas ended the set on a 7-2 run to take a 1-0 lead. The teams traded short runs throughout the second set and ESU had the last three points to knot up the match at a set apiece. Pitt State used a 7-1 run early in the third to grab the lead and never gave it back to put themselves back on top in the match. Down six in the fourth stanza, ESU found a 14-4 run and cashed in their third set point to send it to a fifth set. ESU raced out to a 4-0 advantage early and never trailed in the fifth to seal the win. Lavra Krizanic led the ESU offense with a career-high 24 kills while Nyia Anderson added 12 with 23 digs. Boglarka Rady had 33 digs to lead the defense. ESU (13-2, 4-0 MIAA) returns to White Auditorium Tuesday to host Washburn. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
