Emporia State University’s Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center was busy inside and out Saturday evening. Reason being: the now-annual Observe the Moon event.
ESU Peterson Planetarium Director Mark Brown was pleased to see over 100 people attend. He says the moon has played an important role in science — as well as culture and the human spirit.
While the moon has captivated people for thousands of years, it has had NASA’s attention for the agency’s history since it was created nearly 70 years ago. And that includes the Artemis II mission coming next year.
Besides looking through telescopes to see the moon and Saturn, residents could enjoy a variety of crafts as well as Brown’s presentation on the upcoming Artemis II mission. Residents could also tour PAROC as part of the activities.
The Planetarium is getting ready for its next full-dome presentation called The Hot and Energetic Universe. Presentations will be Wednesday, Oct. 16, Oct. 18, Oct. 23 and Oct. 30. Times vary.
