Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is starting a listening tour on the state budget this week. And she currently plans to be in Emporia for the tour early next month.
The People’s Budget Tour begins Thursday in Salina and will travel to seven other cities, including the Lyon County History Center in downtown Emporia on Nov. 6. The event will begin at 6 pm that evening.
The governor says the tour is a way to get input on how taxpayer dollars are being spent and also to compare her budget to the one passed by the Republican Legislature earlier this session. Since before the budget was passed, the governor has said the Republican version leaves the state with anywhere between $300 million and $700 million more in expenditures than revenues “every year for the foreseeable future.” Republicans disagree, saying the governor’s budget spends too much money.
