Significant road improvements are forthcoming in Lyon County.
According to Kansas Department of Transportation Engineer Steve Baalman, APAC Kansas Shears Division is set to begin asphalt overlay resurfacing work on Kansas Highway 99 from the Greenwood/Lyon County line to just south of the Emporia City limits, stretching roughly 15.5 miles, possibly as soon as Thursday. The work will begin with patching work in and around Emporia and Olpe, specifically near the south city limits of Emporia, stretching across the work zone with two major patch jobs, roughly 200 feet long, taking place right near Olpe, according to Baalman.
Once the patchwork is completed, the resurfacing work will begin and will include three-quarter-inch milling and a two-inch asphalt overlay. The work will lead to some traffic adjustments, including one lane traffic and a pilot car and flagger in portions of the work zone. Motorists should anticipate delays or find alternate routes around the work if possible.
The project is expected to be completed on or shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday, weather permitting.
