Monday’s rain had an apparent impact on travel as Emporia Fire says two people were taken to hospitals after separate wrecks on the Kansas Turnpike in southwest Lyon County on Monday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol crash log says the first crash happened just before 2:20 pm at mile marker 118 southbound, or nine miles southwest of Emporia. Troopers say 23-year-old Elizabeth Conrad of Wichita was in the inside lane when her vehicle hydroplaned and hit the center barrier wall.
Conrad was taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the wreck.
Emporia Fire returned to the Turnpike at mile marker 117 shortly before 4:30 pm. At least one person was reported taken to Newman Regional Health afterward. Details are pending.
