It doesn’t feel at all like Christmas, but it’s beginning to look like the holiday period for the Emporia Salvation Army in one important regard.
The Salvation Army is getting ready for its annual Christmas Assistance period for families in need. Qualifying families receive food for a holiday meal and gifts for children up to age 17.
Online applications will be accepted from Oct. 27 through Nov. 14 at saangeltree.org. Residents can choose their language at the top of the website. Applicants need valid email addresses, photo IDs, proof of Lyon County residence through a utility bill or rental lease, proof of household income, proof of everybody living in the home in question, proof of children ages and accurate clothing sizes for children.
People can call the Salvation Army office at 620-342-3093 with questions.
Separately, the Salvation Army is not having its government commodity food box distribution this month “due to circumstances beyond our control.” The next distribution is Dec. 17.
