Emporia Volleyball celebrated the Lady Spartans Seniors on Thursday with a split against Great Bend and Hillsboro.
Emporia hung tough in the first set but Great Bend did enough to hold off the Lady Spartans 25-21. Great Bend controlled the 2nd set 25-12 to win the match 2-0.
Emporia came out with renowned sense of energy against Hillsboro, but Emporia fell behind early in the first set 12-8 before storming back late in the set, using a five point to take the lead at 20-19. A Jade Xu kill won the set 26-24 to send the EHS student section into a frenzy.
In the 2nd set, Emporia got a little bit more breathing room, using a fast start and strong finish to win the set 25-18. Overall, Head Coach Ping Wang was pleased with the team on Thursday night.
It was a big night for Emporia’s seniors, as Jade Xu, Elodie Bueno and Molly Williams were honored on Senior Night. Wang knows it’s a special group, and having coached her daughter Jade and her teammates makes it extra special.
Emporia is back in action on Oct 14th at Topeka West.
