Emporia Police officers say a traffic stop early Thursday led to an arrest on suspicion of drug distribution and driving under the influence.
Investigations Capt. Lisa Hayes says the traffic stop happened just after midnight near 12th and Merchant. After a DUI investigation, Hayes says 66-year-old Thomas G Lawrence of Emporia was arrested on suspicion of DUI — but also on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possessing marijuana and paraphernalia, battery on and interference with law enforcement and not having vehicle insurance.
Details are pending, along with formal charges. The Lyon County online jail roster indicates the meth distribution count involves less than 100 grams.
