Emporia used two forced turnovers of Washburn Rural to hang tough with the Junior Blues on Friday night, but a big 3rd quarter for Washburn Rural helped them pull away 38-0 at Welch Stadium in Emporia.
It was 7-0 at halftime in favor of Washburn Rural, as EHS used defensive stops in Emporia territory, including a fumble recovery and then this Oliver Klein interception to keep the Junior Blues out of the endzone.
Emporia struggled to get their offense going on the night, but this run by Emporia star running back Rylan Crowell gave the Spartans life.
Late in the first half, Washburn Rural was driving and on fourth and goal, Oliver Klein came up big with a tackle on 4th and goal from the two yard line to keep the score 7-0 at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter, the Junior Blues seized momentum, using a balanced attack to dominate the 3rd quarter, racking up 28 points in the quarter to build a 35-0 lead in the 4th quarter en route to the 38-0 road win.
Crowell was held in check rushing, finishing with a season low 52 yards. Emporia next hosts Spring Hill on Friday.
