More court dates and a new charge are coming in an Emporia murder case.
Following a preliminary hearing in Lyon County District Court on Friday, Judge Jeff Larson approved a legal complaint amending a count of aggravated battery great bodily harm, in addition to existing charges of second-degree murder and aggravated robbery. Larson also approved a new aggravated weapons violation.
Perez-Ricardo, age 36 of Emporia, is accused of killing 57-year-old Adolfo Viniegra, initially listed as 62-year-old Raul Reyes, in late May following an alleged disturbance. He has also been charged after allegedly taking a cell phone from Joseph Alfred Rodriguez.
Upcoming hearings will take place next year, including a motion hearing Jan. 7 and a trial status hearing Feb. 18. Jury trial is tentatively set to begin Feb. 23.
