The Kansas Young Republicans chapter has been shut down until further notice following leaked chats including messages with racist and antisemitic statements alongside others suggesting the use of gas chamber or rape for political opponents.
In a story titled, “‘I Love Hitler:’ Leaked messages expose Young Republicans’ racist chat,” Politico says a Telegram chat developed around 2,900 pages of chats over seven months earlier this year, with comments about pledging fondness to the Nazi regime, reprisals against opponents, the need to avoid being labeled as a Republican In Name Only or RINO and the use of numerous slurs against minorities,
The chat ultimately involved leaders of Young Republican groups in Kansas, Arizona, New York and Vermont. The article mentions Kansas chair Alex Dwyer and Vice Chair Will Hendrix, who was an employee with the Kansas Attorney General’s Office before the article was published. He has since been fired.
Kansas GOP Chair Danedri Herbert says the party leadership “is disgusted by the comments,” adding in a statement: “Republicans believe that all people are created in the image of God. In fact, our platform clearly states, ‘We welcome Kansans of every ethnicity into our party as we work together to preserve our heritage of political equality, religious freedom and strong moral values. We strive to eliminate racism and we condemn all racist acts and groups.’ As of today, the Kansas Young Republicans organization is inactive.”
