The Emporia Spartans were undermanned and outgunned on Friday night in a 43-0 loss to Spring Hill. The Spartans had a strong first quarter, going on a time-consuming drive while holding the Broncos to just six points in the 1st. The 2nd frame was a different story as Spring Hills defense stiffened and they used explosive plays on offense to outscore Emporia 24-0 in the 2nd to take a 30-0 halftime lead.
Turnovers hurt the Spartans in the 2nd half as Spring Hill added a pair of scores in the 3rd to make it 43-0 after three quarters. Emporia did get more defensive stops in the 2nd half and started to get more offense, including this Grady Howe run for 42 yards.
Emporia earned a redzone trip late in the game, but another turnover ended the scoring threat to end the game.
Ben Collins had a workmanlike game for the Spartans, rushing for 74-yards on 28 carries, while Howe had five carries for 61 yards.
Emporia falls to to 2-5 while Spring Hill improved to 6-1. Next up for the Spartans is a road game at Junction City on Friday.
