In a district showdown, Olpe took a 16-14 lead into the fourth quarter before falling 36-22 against Rossville to fall to 5-2 on the season.
Olpe took the first drive of the game 60 yards, capped off by a Braden Leinemann touchdown. That would be the lone score of the quarter.
Olpe would lose a fumble inside Rossville’s five yard line early in the second quarter. Rossville would capitalize with a 71 yard rushing touchdown by Conner Bush to draw within 7-6. Jack Donovan would give Rossville their first lead of the contest with a 32 yard rushing touchdown with 4:41 left in the second quarter, 14-7.
Leinemann would find the endzone again with 2:59 left to go in the second with a 13 yard touchdown score. The score would remain 14-14 heading into halftime.
Olpe would retake the lead with 5:35 left to go in the third as Rossville committed a penalty in their own endzone, forcing a safety.
Cannan Mitchell would give Rossville a lead that they would not look back from on a 34 yard score that made it 22-16 Rossville with 10:49 remaining in the game. Bush would add another touchdown for Rossville on a 80 yard punt return that pushed the lead to 12, 28-16 with 4:26 remaining.
Olpe would battle back as Leinemann found Ko’Rel Robinson on a 25 yard passing touchdown that pulled the margin within six, 28-22, with 2:16 remaining.
Olpe would put Rossville into a third and 11 with under two minutes to play with one timeout remaining before Mitchell escaped the defense going 81 yards to bring the last score of the game to 36-22.
Rossville would finish with 302 yards on the ground, led by Mitchell with 141 yards. Miitchell added 92 yards through the air.
Olpe would have a total of 304 yards of total offense, with the leading rusher being Eli Markowitz with 88 yards. Leinemann finished with 78 yards passing.
Rossville won the turnover margin 3-1.
Olpe will travel to play Cair Paravel next week. A game that will be played Saturday night at 7pm from Washburn University. Coverage will be on 104.9
