Downtown Emporia had some extra foot traffic for part of Saturday.
The city’s second No Kings rally of the year brought at least 300 people downtown, with protestors at all four corners of the Sixth and Commercial intersection. The protest involved signs and songs and was peaceful in nature.
No Kings developed nationally as a protest against both specific policies and the general government direction under President Donald Trump. There were over 2,000 protests nationwide Saturday and several thousand protests in June, also including Emporia. Unlike that event, which took place at Fremont Park, there were no planned speakers Saturday.
