The Emporia State football team fell behind 17-0 and never led in a 56-22 defeat at Central Oklahoma’s Chad Richison Stadium on Saturday in Edmond, Okla. The Bronchos scored on their opening drive with two completions of over 30 yards. It was a sign of things to come as UCO quarterback Jet Huff carved up the Hornet secondary finishing 20-for-28 passing for 449 yards and five touchdowns. ESU’s starting quarterback Ben Harris left the game in the first half with a right pectoral injury and did not return. ESU threw four interceptions in the game with two by Harris and two by backup Mason Dennis. ESU’s only passing touchdown came on a gadget play as Kingsley Bennett threw a touchdown to Camden Crooks. Head coach Garin Higgins says he’s looking for his team to respond next week in practice.
ESU (3-4, 2-3) returns to the road next week at Central Missouri. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. with coverage beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Mix 104.9
