The Gary Fuller Memorial Shootout has been raising money for scholarships for years, and it returned to the community calendar Saturday for that very purpose.
The event honors the Fuller family’s longstanding assistance for 4H students even before Gary Fuller passed away over a decade ago after a tree-trimming accident. Fuller’s widow, Lisa, says the family embraces the event.
Lisa Fuller says it’s also a way to get people together — in some cases for the only time all year.
This was the eighth annual fundraiser at the Fuller farmstead northeast of Emporia. Over 50 people participated. Six $500 scholarships were given away, based on student excellence in 4H projects, community interaction and other factors.
