Medical transports were not needed following a collision and resulting rollover involving two semis south of Emporia Sunday afternoon.
According to Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley, EFD was called to mile marker 126.4 on the Kansas Turnpike, roughly half a mile south of Emporia, for a reported rollover accident. Upon arrival, crews learned that two semis were traveling northbound in the vicinity when a semi hauling a trailer rear-ended a semi with a flatbed trailer in front of it.
The semi that initiated the contact then left the roadway and overturned in the northbound ditch. The accident did not cross lanes of travel; however, there was a large amount of debris that had to be cleared from the scene following the incident.
There was one patient refusal and no medical transports. In addition to Emporia Fire, the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
No further details, including the names of the drivers involved, have been released through KHP.
