Whether you’re new to the system or have experience, there are always changes to Medicare. A big one this year has to do with access.
On KVOE’s monthly Medicare Minute Wednesday, Certified Senior Health Insurance Counselor for Kansas Karen Mayse said people creating an online account through Medicare.gov need a working email address. They will also need to set up multi-factor verification as part of the set-up process.
Mayse says the Medicare.gov account lets you enter or update prescription lists, look at available pharmacies and view potential plans by ZIP code. People making choices on plans can also enroll online.
If you don’t have a working email, the process for checking prescription or overall health plans is still doable — but it is harder.
Mayse’s appearance on KVOE’s Morning Show this week comes with the Medicare open enrollment window now open into December. Residents who have questions or need help with their applications can schedule appointments through the Emporia Friendship Center at 620-340-8001, the Lyon County Extension Office at 620-341-3220 or the North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging at 800-432-2703. Agency SHICK Counselors, including Mayse, will attend a special information event at the Lyon County Fairgrounds on Nov. 18-19.
