In preparations for moving out of its longstanding home next week, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1980 has a special fundraising auction Thursday evening.
Bidding will start shortly after 5 pm at the post, 932 Graphic Arts. Numerous items are up for auction, including bar equipment, a refrigerator, shuffleboard equipment, tables, chairs and a pool table.
The post is vacating the building by Oct. 30 after MRSK Buildings bought the property for $140,000 earlier this month. MRSK is planning to convert the post into its shop and warehouse while keeping sales and estimates at its current address, 2604 Wet US Highway 50.
Post 1980 is still looking for a new home, but it can’t use proceeds from the sale towards a new building until it can regain non-profit status. It can, however, use proceeds for nonprofit activities once it starts an account soon with the Emporia Community Foundation.
