Local illness cases are on the rise.
Lyon County Health Officer Dr Ladun Oyenuga says illnesses like influenza, parainfluenza, rhinovirus, enterovirus and COVID have actually been on the upswing since early September. Dr Oyenuga says flu severity has varied depending on the patient.
Dr Oyenuga says there is a similar story with COVID, with some asymptomatic patients and others getting the “razor blade” variant. Rhinovirus is the most prevalent illness areawide at this time.
Dr Oyenuga says there are several ways to ward off illnesses, starting with vaccinations. And she says the early illness numbers are a concern heading deeper into the winter illness season.
Other steps for limiting illness risk include thorough handwashing and hydration with water, sports drinks or even broth. Dr Oyenuga says people should stay home if they feel sick, especially if they have fevers. People should also use the “vampire cough” or wear masks if they have to be out in public.
