Nobody was hurt, but a damaging house fire in Neosho Rapids killed a dog Monday morning.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Greg Zumbrunn tells KVOE News fire at 310 Main was reported shortly before 7:40 am. Crews saw fire and heavy smoke as they arrived. The walls were left standing. There was fire, smoke and heat damage throughout the one-story home.
Nobody was home when the fire was reported.
Zumbrunn says his department has reached out to the Office of Kansas State Fire Marshal for help as the investigation begins. The cause and origination point are currently unclear.
Besides Hartford-Neosho Rapids, most other Lyon County fire departments responded, including Lyon County Fire District 4 or Emporia’s rural unit, as well as Miller, Olpe and Reading. Evergy and Black Hills Energy also responded.

7:40 am Monday: Structure fire reported in Neosho Rapids
Several Lyon County fire departments have been dispatched to a reported structure fire Monday morning.
The incident address is 310 Main in Neosho Rapids, just north of Neosho Rapids City Park. The call was reported just after 7:30 am.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids has been toned out, along with Olpe, Lyon County Fire District 4, or Emporia’s rural fire unit, Miller and Reading. Evergy and Black Hills Energy were also called to assist.
